Memorable Moment – Moped Mishap

Let’s call this an unmemorable moment seeing as it wasn’t the smartest thing I’ve done. On a trip to Vietnam with Sam’s siblings and brother-in-law, we thought it would be a great idea to hire mopeds and explore Hoi An (coastal town located in central Vietnam, in the Quảng Nam Province).

Sam got taken out by a local, I slipped sideways on a banana leaf and all 4 of our mopeds were “impounded” by the local police for supposedly parking illegally after 2pm in the old part of Hoi An. After tracking down said mopeds in a seedy part of town in a large, and very dark warehouse, and paying USD$50 (per moped) to locals who looked nothing like the police, we got them back and promptly returned them to where we hired them from! This adventure is not recommended but does make for a great story!
