A Very Unique Experience…For An Aussie!

Fishing and ice aren’t two words an Aussie would generally put together unless you’re talking about keeping beers cool while you’ve thrown a line in, but in Canada in the depths of winter, ice fishing is a thing.

It involves drilling a hole in the ice with the ice equivalent of a post hole digger, then covering said hole with a hut before dropping a baited line to the hopefully waiting fish under the ice.

This is us trying our hand at it in Kananaskis Country, just west of Calgary. There were no toilets anywhere close (what they say about yellow snow is absolutely true), it was extremely cold (but hot chocolate was on hand), AND between three of us, we managed to catch one fish!

A very unique experience…for an Australian at least!
